Business Stay. But Where?

Business travel can, of course, take place in different types of accommodation: in a hotel chain, an independent hotel, an aparthotel, a B&B, or even a holiday home. You are probably familiar with all of them by name, but what are the actual differences, and which option best suits your business trip and/or employees? I (Annelien) will gladly explain

Something for Everyone

Every business traveler has different needs during their stay.
And each stay is unique. Preferences depend on the guest or the type of company, the budget, the size of the group, the duration, and the purpose of the trip. One guest may prefer an extensive dinner with plenty of options, while another is happy with a quick bite. Some feel more at home in a cozy B&B, while others prefer the consistency of a hotel chain.

Types of Accommodation for Business Stays

Hotel Chains

Let’s start with hotel chains.
I dare say this type of accommodation is the most familiar to business travelers. A hotel chain can be described as multiple hotels operating under the same brand name. Think of hotels such as Fletcher, Bastion, Postillion, NH, Van der Valk, or Best Western—just to name a few.
Each hotel within a chain often shares the same design, atmosphere, and generally follows the same policies. Hotel chains come in all shapes and sizes: different star ratings, with or without a restaurant, offering a wide range of facilities, and much more.

Each year, our clients book many stays at various hotel chains through their own dedicated corporate booking portal.
Hotel chains therefore remain one of the most popular types of accommodation for business travel.

Independent Hotels

For convenience, let’s call hotels that are not part of a chain independent hotels.
These are often the lesser-known hotels—but certainly not of lower quality, and usually full of charm. Why choose an independent hotel for a business stay? Plenty of reasons! Independent hotels are often very welcoming and offer lots of personal attention. I would even describe it as having a bit of a “village feel.”
At LookingforBooking Corporate Travel, we regularly recommend our clients to choose an independent hotel. Thanks to the many business reviews and feedback we receive, we have a clear view of the advantages. Location also plays an important role: when projects or assignments take place in more remote areas, an independent hotel is often closer by than a chain hotel.

ApartHotel

As the name suggests, an aparthotel is a combination of an apartment and a hotel.
An aparthotel typically offers apartments as hotel rooms, combined with the services of a hotel. This mix can be an advantage for business travelers. The rooms often come with their own kitchen, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. Many business guests appreciate this option when they need to stay for longer periods of time.
Another benefit: unlike standard apartments, an aparthotel does not require a (yearly) lease agreement.

Bed & Breakfast (B&B)

As the name suggests, an aparthotel is a combination of an apartment and a hotel.
An aparthotel typically offers apartments as hotel rooms, combined with the services of a hotel. This mix can be an advantage for business travelers. The rooms often come with their own kitchen, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. Many business guests appreciate this option when they need to stay for longer periods of time.
Another benefit: unlike standard apartments, an aparthotel does not require a (yearly) lease agreement.

Vacation Rentals

Think of a chalet, a holiday home, an Airbnb, or even a mobile home.
Especially during the COVID-19 period, we saw an increase in demand for holiday homes, mainly due to the space they and holiday parks provide.
For expats seeking accommodation with their families for a longer period, a holiday home is an ideal solution. And for clients of LookingforBooking Corporate Travel, holiday parks are often chosen for employees working on long-term projects.

Finally…

Through the corporate booking portal of LookingforBooking Corporate Travel, our clients can book all types of accommodation.
This is often seen as a real advantage—for two reasons. First, employees enjoy a wide range of options, giving each of them the opportunity to choose the accommodation that best fits their needs. Second, companies often discover cost-saving opportunities thanks to the broad selection available.

I could talk about this for hours, but if you need assistance booking the right accommodation—or if you’d like to learn more about our solution for companies whose employees frequently travel for business—that’s no problem. I’ll be happy to help!
