Stay at Best Western Plus Groningen Plaza
A few weeks ago, I woke up under a blanket of snow at the beautiful Best Western Plus Groningen Plaza Hotel. I did this to give you a better impression of how hotel stays are still possible despite the current measures. We often hear questions such as: Can I still dine in a hotel? or How is breakfast arranged? To clarify this, I spent a night at our hotel partner Best Western Plus Groningen Plaza. A home game for me! I recorded everything during my stay—see my very first vlog below.
Time to Check In!
Upon entering, I put on my face mask and carefully disinfected my hands. A sanitizer station was already placed outside by the entrance, impossible to miss. I followed the floor markings to reception and read the information board along the way. The receptionist wore a mask and the desk was shielded with plexiglass. Safety first.
Ordering Dinner and Breakfast
So, you can’t dine in a hotel anymore? Good news! Hotels now widely offer the option to order dinner for takeaway at the hotel restaurant. During check-in, I was informed about how and where to place my orders for dinner and breakfast. The staff was very helpful, handing me extensive menus for both. Back in my room, I could calmly fill out my choices—even a special menu for traditional Dutch stamppot dishes! After deciding, I simply handed the forms with my preferred mealtimes back to reception.

Dinner is Served
Right at 7:00 pm, as requested, my dinner was ready for pickup at the beautifully renovated restaurant on the ground floor. Once restrictions are lifted, I will definitely come back to enjoy a meal there! The restaurant and terrace overlook Lake Hoornsemeer, a stunning view. I took my tray upstairs and enjoyed my meal peacefully in my room. It was delicious.
Breakfast – Coffee Please!
After a good night’s sleep, I was looking forward to breakfast. Since I had already filled out my breakfast choices the day before, everything was prepared when I came down to pick it up. The staff asked about my coffee or tea preference, and then I headed back to enjoy breakfast in my room. With the wonderful view and enthusiastic ice skaters on the lake, it was no punishment to have breakfast upstairs.
Checking Out – Back to Work
Just like check-in, the check-out process went smoothly. I followed the floor markings again, returned my key cards, and before I knew it, I was outside in the snow, ready to start my workday.
In short: thanks to the creativity and efforts of hotels, business stays are still very possible within the RIVM guidelines.
